Butte County Skilled Trades Workers Vote to Join UPEC 792
Posted On: Aug 28, 2014
On Friday, 22nd, election officials from the State met in the Butte County Human Resources Training Room in Oroville to tally up the votes for the Skilled Trades Unit Election. By the time the votes were finished being counted, a whopping 84% of ballots cast were in favor of joining UPEC 792. It was a landslide victory for all the workers that fought so hard to become part of UPEC 792.
After more than 18 months of tireless organizing, countless meetings, and persistent effort, the Skilled Trades Unit of Butte County finally got to become part of UPEC 792 and LiUNA. UPEC demonstrated its tenacity, and its unwillingness to take no for an answer despite the County's many attempts to block the creation of this bargaining unit. The election result can be seen as a major victory for democracy in the workplace, and for workers having the right to be represented by a Union of their choice.
Now that the Skilled Trades Bargaining Unit is officially part of the UPEC family, the real work of signing up members and preparing to negotiate a first contract can finally begin.
UPEC has scheduled a special member orientation meeting for all Skilled Trades Bargaining Unit employees on the evening of Thursday, September 11th at 5 PM. The meeting will take place in the Human Resources Training Room: 2279 Del Oro Drive, Suite G, Oroville. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.
Congratulations Butte County Skilled Trades workers on joining UPEC!
