OROVILLE, CA - Last night the Butte County Skilled Trades Unit voted to conduct a 2 day strike on Monday Oct 26 and Tuesday Oct 27 Chief Negotiator Steve Allen announced. The Union and the County have reached an impasse over their first contract. UPEC formed created the bargaining unit and began negotiations a year ago because these employees were not getting the recognition they needed from the Butte County Employees Association (BCEA). Currently, UPEC is conducting a decertification campaign against the remaining 2 units under BCEA along with the Teamsters Local 137 and Stationary Engineers Local 39. UPEC is hopeful that a deal can still be reached before the 26th. If a strike becomes necessary this would be the first public employee union strike in Butte County.
