Shasta County Professional Unit Members Approve New 3 year Contract!
Updated On: Jun 25, 2016
Following several months of negotiations, Shasta County Profesional Unit members approved a new 3 year contract that increases salary 8% over the next 22 months.
This agreement restores the last 2% of a 7% PERS concession agreed to members in a previous contract to help balance the county budget when times were much tighter and begins (finally!) the start of regular Cost Of Living Adjustments (COLA) at a rate of 3% per year:
Year One - 3% salary increase
Year Two - 3% salary increase
Year Three - 2% salary increase
A significant piece of the agreement is to implement a new 401a Deferred Compensation Plan for new hires beginning 1-1-17 to replace the current higher level of retiree medical benefits for current retirees and employees. The 401a Plan provides a 3% "match" to the employee's own voluntary 3% deferred compensation contribution. The County match is on a 10 year vesting schedule, meaning, to receive the full value of the County match an employee must work for Shasta County a minimum of 10 years. This agreement relieves the Conty of significant unfunded liability and was a deal breaker for the County in order to agree to COLA increases.
Other contract impovements include: increase minimum callback from standby duty from one hour to two hours, implementation of a new "hearing officer" process for intermediate discipline appeals such as appeal from suspensions and demotions and reimbursement to employees of the cost of certifications and licenses required for their positions.
Congratulations to the Professional Unit members for a sucessful negotiation!
