UPEC Labor Representative/Business Agent Ryan Heron reports that the grievance he filed on behalf of 12 members regarding vacation restoration was recently resolved at the City Administator level of the grievance procedure. The back story on this issue is that the City closed the Library as a result of a storm and power outage and employees sent home as a result of the closure had a vacation day unilaterally deducted from their vacation accrual banks. In this specific case the Union contract has language that requires a 2 week notice prior to a schedule change, which clearly was not provided due to the emergent nature of the library closure. At Ryans suggestion and request, all 12 members met with the City Adminitrator at his level of the formal grievance procedure, discussed the case and were successful in their request to have the City restore their vacation leave. Good work for all involved!
