In the Fall of 2019 some of our Glenn County retirees were notified that the County made an error in reporting their earnings to PERS, creating an overpayment for those contacted. PERS demanded repayment of all alleged overpayments. After reviewing the matter, UPEC's Board of Directors voted to approve retaining a lawyer specifically to represent our retirees in fighting this demand! Through our efforts we have been able to stop the demands for repayment until the matter can be heard at a formal hearing. We now have a date for that hearing: March 2, 2021. Our attorney was able to get the opposing attorney to agree that the same facts in this case apply to all those impacted by the PERS audit and resulting demands for payments. This was terrific news because there are former members/retirees who are impacted by this error who we weren't able to reach. Now, if we prevail, they will win too!
