Many of our members are enrolled in PERS Medical Plans and should be paying attention to the signicant changes that are occurring for 2022.
The PERS Board recently adopted plan changes and set rates for the 2022 calendar year. Plan changes take effect 1-1-22 although premium changes are implemented a month in advance, meaning in December 2021.
Attached is a PERS letter describing the plan changes and separate attachments with the actual 2022 rates.
Some points you will see in the documents:
The three traditional PERS PPO offerings, PERS Select, PERS Choice and PERS Care are being merged into two offerings: PERS Select remains available but is renamed PERS Gold. PERS Choice is merged into PERS Care and both are renamed PERS Platinum.
PERS Gold (prior Select) premium is increasing about 23%, depending on your region.
PERS Platinum (prior Choice and Care) is set higher than 2021 Choice and lower than 2021 Care.
An EPO (Exclusive Provider Option) is being offered in Lassen and Shasta Counties but it is expensive.
Some of our units offer PORAC membership and able to opt into the PORAC plan so it is also attached.
A lot of our contracts tie the employer contribution to a formula, typically tied to Choice but sometimes Select. These formulas now transition to the renamed plans, Gold and Platinum. Call your UPEC labor representative if you have questioons about this is going to work going forward into 2022.
