Descriptions of Membership and other Options:

Dues Paying Member: is a full member of UPEC Local 792 paying membership dues. As of January 1, 2025, dues will be $51.50 per month (equal to $25.75 semi-monthly or $23.77 biweekly) plus any applicable Association fees / surcharges .

Effective July 26, 2018, no portion of dues will be retained and used by UPEC for political action.

A member can attend membership meetings and has full voting privileges, allowing the member to vote on both unit specific issues such as MOU's, contract amendments, etc. and Local 792 issues such as election of officers, dues increases, etc. Qualified members may run for office, be appointed to UPEC positions, attend UPEC training, participate on bargaining teams and be involved in all other Union activities. Members are eligible for Union sponsored benefit programs, free accidental death and dismemberment insurance through UPEC ($4,000 policy); discounts for many items, including travel and entertainment (i.e., theme parks, car and hotel rentals, movies, restaurants, etc.), insurance (e.g., car and pet), and AT&T wireless service; access to unionplus.org programs such as mortgage, life insurance, and Mastercard; free consultation with the labor attorneys we work with regarding non-employment related issues (i.e., landlord-tenant issues, dog bite, etc.) and discounted will and trust preparation; and discounts through UPEC for ID/Legal Shield (spouse added for no charge) and AirMed/Reach air ambulance (household members included at no extra charge).Please note, if you do not provide your social security number, you will not be eligible for initiation with LiUNA and will not be able to take advantage of member benefits. It is the employee’s responsibility to inform UPEC of any changes in job classification, bargaining unit, address, phone, email and/or changes in employment or status.

Non-Member Voluntary Representation Fee Payer: is not a member of UPEC Local 792 and has no membership rights or benefits as described under the Member section above. As of January 1, 2025, the fee is $42.00 per month (equal to $21.00 semi-monthly or $19.38 biweekly). A non-member Voluntary Representation Fee Payer will be provided individual workplace issue representation on the same basis as a member. Such representation can include but is not limited to: interviews of complaints or discipline where you are the victim, a witness or the accused, grievances, complaints you wish to make, discrimination, harassment, bullying whether you are the victim, a witness or the accused, discipline appeals up to and including the hearing level, performance evaluation response or appeal, etc. No amount of the fee will be used for local, state or national politics.

Non-Member: is not a member of UPEC Local 792 and has no membership rights or benefits as described under the Member section above. In addition, although a non-member may be covered by an MOU negotiated by UPEC, a non-member requesting individual representation services will need to make an initial deposit of $1500.00 to initiate representation. A reasonable hourly reimbursement will be charged against the deposit for actual representation costs.

SPECICAL NOTE FOR SHASTA COUNTY GENERAL UNIT EMPLOYEES : Shasta County General Unit members pay an additional $10.00 twice a year. Money is deposited into a spending account to be used as voted and directed by SCGU / UPEC members
